Symposium wrap-up
I would like to extend a special thanks to all of our sponsors, DealMaker hosts, speakers and panelists for truly making our first UK Symposium a great success! The day was a combination of networking and information sharing, enabling advertisers and publishers to build partnerships, foster relationships and obtain key insights into online consumer behavior in today’s challenging economy.
The day’s events began with opening remarks from our Managing Director, Liane Dietrich. The morning’s keynote session saw Dr. Matt Carter, Managing Director of Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates sharing the results of our recent study of online consumers in the UK, commissioned especially for the event. The survey looked at how consumers expect to change their online shopping patterns in 2009, identifying the emergence of a new kind of consumer – the Recession Shopper. These are the people who intend to migrate their shopping online to mitigate an increasingly challenging economic situation. As their purse strings tighten, they will not cease to spend: instead, they will simply make sure they are doing so more wisely.
The afternoon’s TrendWatch panel saw Chris Bishop from House of Fraser, Duncan Jennings from MyVoucherCodes and Joe Stepniewski from Skimlinks give their opinions on the results and upcoming considerations for the Affiliate Marketing industry in 2009.
One of the highlights of the LinkShare Symposium UK was the DealMaker networking session, which offered a rare opportunity for publishers and advertisers to meet face-to-face, find new opportunities and help strengthen existing business relationships uncovering new ways to drive revenue. The afternoon was such a success that people were still milling around and doing deals long after the 3 hour session ended.
I will post some photos of the event as soon as I can – we are all looking forward to next year’s event!!
