Merry Christmas to all
It might just be down to the weather and no-one wanting to venture out this December, I know it was for me, but it’s very encouraging to see that early figures show that the value of the average order placed online is up by 94% this Christmas, compared to 2008.
Our predictions for online retail in 2009 have been mostly positive and I am happy to see this seems to be reflected in the results. According to Hitwise, Cyber Monday’ (Dec 7) and Sunday December 6 were the joint busiest days for online retailers in the UK so far this year. IMRG added that on Cyber Monday £1.4m was spent online at 13:43 in just one minute, with sales peaking at £33m between 13:00 and 14:00.
A great end to 2009, which has been another tough year for retailers. It is now more important than ever that brands have in place an online strategy to compliment their offline offering. As consumers have increasingly turned to the web in search of the best deals, the key for retailers looking to boost dwindling high street sales is to seize the opportunities which exist online by promoting their brand whilst also appealing to the ever savvy online shopper.
As such, 2009 has been another great year for Affiliate Marketing and more specifically for LinkShare. We’ve welcomed a number of new merchants and affiliates to the network this year. We’ve experienced success with new tools such as our Link Generator Bookmarklet, Wordpress Plugins, #tweetshop (see our Bento Box for all of these new technologies) which have all served to make it easier for you all to build such great partnerships.
We would like to thank all our partners, both merchants and affiliates, for helping to make 2009 such a success, and to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas. We hope you all have a good break and look forward to a prosperous 2010.
