About Pringle of Scotland
Pringle has a unique place in British culture and the international world of luxury fashion knitwear. It is one of the oldest names in the Scottish borders, the birthplace of the British knitwear industry. Founded in 1815 by Robert Pringle it became one of the first luxury knitwear brands in the world having expanded throughout Europe, the US and Japan during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Pringle has been knitting cashmere since the 1870s and created the term knitwear when a knitted garment was worn as outerwear. This became an instant success and a trend that lasted to this day. It is also credited with the creation of the Intarsia design known as the Argyle pattern which became popular with the Duke of Windsor and the fashionable set of the time.
